Sound Therapy is bathing in sound frequency.
A sound bath is a meditative session where you lie down on a yoga mat, cover yourself with a blanket and have a pillow to rest your head. Make yourself as comfortable as you can and then be guided by the practitioner into a meditative session.
Some of the instruments that are used for a sound bath are crystal and Tibetan singing bowls, gongs, flutes, drums, chimes, bells, and other earthly
instruments. It can be a completely passive experience where you listen to the sounds and relax, or you can enter a deeper state of meditation while being bathed by the healing vibration.
The session is good for you physically, mentally and emotionally, helping to reduce chronic pain and lessen anxiety, stress and depression. It is deeply immersive as it can take you into alpha and theta brainwave states. This is when healing happens.
Most people leave a sound bath feeling very relaxed, rebalanced and some are ready to take a nap!
To a newbie, a Sound bath could be you lying in a bath full of water, your ears plugged into some form of sound (not safe I know!).
Truth is, you are bathed in sound frequencies, hence the word ‘Bath’. This is beneficial for our mental, emotional and spiritual wellbeing, which eventually will result in physical wellbeing. This is the goal. When we workout at the gym, or go to a Pilates/yoga class, the end result is the same. To feel well physically.
Sound baths are slowly becoming mainstream. Although Sound healing has been around for many centuries, it is only just trending in the western world. Sound was very much a part of the far Eastern and Eastern cultures. Buddhist temples have used gongs, drums, bells and Tibetan singing bowls in the temples for centuries as part of prayer and offering. This was also very common in a lot of the Indian temples. Lots of different types of bells, drums and a lot of rhythmic chanting and singing.
A simple way to describe a sound bath would be like going to a musical concert that you get to lie down for with crystal bowls, gongs or other earthly instruments. At the very least, it can be a completely passive experience where you just listen to the sounds and relax (some people fall asleep), or you can enter a deeper state of meditation while being bathed by the healing vibration.
If you have never been to a sound bath here are some little tips to think about:
Each sound practitioner is different. Their use of the instruments will differ as well. Enjoy the sessions and feel refreshed and rejuvenated.
These are quartz crystal bowls that work with the energy centres (chakra system). Each bowl is carved specifically to create notes and vibrations that correspond to a certain energy centre of your body. it’s a gentle way to introduce the body to each frequency. These are frequencies your body is already comfortable with.
Like the crystal bowls, they work on a specific note, however because they are metas they can be a bit harsher, but in a good way. They are also multi-tonal which is great. They are great for people who have blocks. since they do run off our meridian lines like acupuncture, they tap into the meridians of our organ system, really helping people who have resistance in different areas of their body. You will be surprised how relaxing a gong can be!
